Baby Naming

A naming ceremony is a non religious alternative to a christening. This is a very special way of celebrating the birth of your child and welcoming the new arrival into the family. It can also be an ideal way to welcome and celebrate an adoptive child into the family or to embrace stepchildren. A naming ceremony is the perfect way to bond a family unit.

The naming ceremony gives an opportunity to declare before family and friends, your promise to your child to guide, love and support them throughout life. It also gives adult friends or relatives an opportunity to confirm their special relationship with your child. You may wish to ask someone to be a sponsor for your child. The sponsor would be given the opportunity to give a declaration of support not only to the child but to the parents also.

The child or children can be any age. A Naming Ceremony is a unique occasion for everyone to feel involved as they pledge their love and support for your child's future development.

Anyone who has parental responsibility or legal guardianship of the child or children can make the arrangements to hold a Naming Ceremony. Parents do not have to be married and can come from any cultural background, with any spiritual or religious beliefs or with none.

The ceremony itself will focus upon your family. There are no hard and fast rules of what form the ceremony will take. Together with your celebrant you can design a ceremony which is unique to you.
